About MDSP

History

A brief history of MDSP

The Maryland Society of Pathologists was formed in 1948 by a small group of pathologists from Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland. Its early work centered on education and annual meetings where pathologists could discuss new discoveries and techniques.

As the society grew, it took a more active role in Maryland's healthcare landscape. Its meetings became important opportunities for pathologists to learn, connect with colleagues, and remain current with developments in the field.

Today, the Maryland & DC Society of Pathologists supports the regional pathology community through advocacy, education, and professional development while responding to modern challenges in practice and patient care.

In 2024, the society expanded member benefits, including mentorship opportunities for residents, fellows, and junior faculty. Pathologists in Washington, D.C. were also welcomed as full members with access to the society's benefits.
